Priming for four corners protocol

1) I agree that women in the Igbo culture have no value because they are almost treated as property. For example women could be traded for other things. This shows a very dark approach to the value of women. However the reason I only agree with with rather than strongly agree is that they can be traded in this culture which shows they have a purpose.
2) I disagree that women's roles in the Igbo culture are similar to the roles of women in The Battle of Algiers because in the BoA, women were used to carry out missions such as blowing up cafes or airports, but in TFA women are used more as commodities to have and use.
3) I disagree that Okonkwo and Ali LaPointe had similar ideas on masculinity because Okonkwo was very pro male, for example when he was exiled people called his crime a women's crime and Okonkwo was very angry at that accusation. However Ali LaPointe showed little resentment towards women and seemed to be kind and generous towards them.
4) I disagree with this statement because at the beginning of the book, yes he was portrayed in a negative light but he was also considered to be a great leader.
5) I agree with this statement because in the book, the Europeans culture is not portrayed as a parasite like in many other cultures such as japan but rather respected. Also the Igbo culture is where the book is based around and it has its ups and downs.
6) I agree with this statement largely due to examples we see today in our world such as the middle east. People who live in chaos, their culture will eventually fall like everything else because chaos cannot sustain itself.
7) I agree with this statement because Okonkwo believes that he is lazy and weak which I think is true because when they converted to Christianity, he had the power to not convert but he caved in because he was weak and didn't want to deal with the consequences.
8) I agree with this because when Ikemefuna was sentenced to death, he was in shock and depressed because he didn't feel like he deserved that kind of punishment. However when Okonkwo killed another person he was not put to death rather exiled to another area.
9) I agree because when he killed that person he claimed it was an accident but he still killed someone. Also he got karma because he was know to be mean and unfriendly so he deserved all his misfortunes.
10) Overall I agree with most of these statements, however I never strongly agreed to one because I believe that for every argument there is a counter argument it is just a matter of which one is better.

1)People's behavior can change in the snap of a finger especially in social atmospheres. This variety in behavior varies from peaceful behavior to violent just because of situations people are placed in.In the book Things fall apart, the actions of some characters changed for the worse when in large social gatherings, this shows that mob mentality affected people's behavior.
2)People's behavior can and will vary due to situations they are placed in such as social gatherings. This holds true with Okonkwo because of the way he acted when placed at the funeral. He was placed in a situation where a large number of people were present and he shot another person. Also when The Umuofia Africans saw a white mans bike and were confused. This show that people's behavior changes for the worse when around other people.

TFA Microlab

1) This passage shows that women are highly valued in their society because twenty bags of cowries is a valuable purchase however the ability to purchase a woman is a sign that women are not valued
2) Women in the Ibo culture are considered to be very mistreated because of how they are looked upon by society.
3) The ceremony in chapter ten favors men in that women were there at the ceremony but looked on from the fringe which shows that they are outsides. An example of this is when women were present there would always be men with her and more men surrounding her. Women in this chapter are not supported because they were not allowed to talk or ask questions which is a sign of patriarchy. In this book, a social hierarchy is in place in which the man is on top and the woman is on bottom.\
4) Ikemefuna, before his death was very depressed because he knew that he was going to die so he went into a state of deep depression.

Single story

1) A situation when someone has applied a single story to me was when they talk about my academic performance because of my race (Asian), because there is a generalization that all Asians are smart and they should perform well in school just because they are born smart.
2) I am guilty as well of applying single stories to other people, for example when someone falls down, you get the impression that they are careless and then you associate that with them.
3) I think that power and a single story go hand and hand because the person who has the power can very heavily influence a persons vision of another.
